Pizza Recipes for Your Next Family Dinner | NIKU Farms

February 9, 2022

Can you think of anyone in your life who doesn’t love pizza? It’s a classic dish with such a diverse range. This makes it so easy for anyone to customize their pizza and create something special they’ll love!

At its core, pizza is just a bread base, sauce, some type of cheese, and then toppings. The possibilities when it comes to pizza toppings are endless! Whether you’re a pepperoni pizza fan, or you prefer extra cheese and shredded barbecue chicken on your crust – it’s the perfect canvas for your culinary creativity.

Keep on scrolling to get some inspiration for how to spice up your next pizza night!

The Dough

For the purpose of all of the pizza recipes in this post, the doughy crust can be made the same with a simple homemade pizza dough recipe. Combine flour, sugar, salt, and yeast in a bowl, then add your wet ingredients – water and a touch of oil – and mix.

Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and let sit for one hour until it doubles in size. Once the dough is ready, pull it out of the bowl and spread out on a floured surface. Now you’re all ready to build your pizza!

Check out our pizza topping inspiration below.

The Classic

If you’re a fan of the classics, top your pizza with a light layer of tomato sauce, a sprinkle of mozzarella cheese, and then add whatever toppings come to mind!

Pepperoni and mushrooms make a great pie, but green peppers, onions, tomato slices, and bacon bits are also great topping choices.

Sweet & Salty

Looking for an elevated version of a delicious pizza? Roll the crust out a little smaller or thinner than you would a round pizza, and then add your favourite toppings!

Try using a brush of olive oil instead of tomato sauce, then top with goat cheese, arugula, apple slices and pasture raised bacon. Your family will love the mix of sweet and salty flavours!

Breakfast Pizza

If breakfast is your favourite meal of the day – try turning it into a pizza!

Use a standard tomato sauce and mozzarella for your base, and then add bacon or breakfast sausage slices, red peppers, fresh basil, and crack a couple of pasture raised eggs on top. Don’t forget to season with salt and pepper – you’ll get all of your favourite breakfast flavours in one bite of pizza!

Hot & Spicy

If your family can’t get enough spicy food, pizza is a great option. You have the freedom to choose as many toppings that will set your tongue on fire as you like! Use a basic tomato sauce, and then add a splash of your favourite hot sauce to add that fiery flavour.

As for toppings, start thinking about foods like grass fed hot Italian sausages, banana peppers, jalapenos, or a sprinkling of chilli flakes!

Outside the Box

Getting tired of all your favourite pizza recipes? Why not try thinking out of the box?

Instead of tomato sauce, use a layer of cranberry sauce or something on the sweeter side. Then sprinkle on some feta cheese, ground pasture raised lamb, baby spinach leaves, and salt and pepper to season. The contrasting flavours of the sauce and toppings will leave your family impressed!

Dessert Pizza

Why does pizza have to be savoury? It’s super easy and delicious to make this savoury favourite something sweet for the whole family.

Rather than tomato sauce, cheese and toppings, coat your crust with a layer of chocolate sauce, then sprinkle some marshmallows, graham cracker crumbs, or drizzle a bit of caramel on top before popping your pizza in the oven.

It’s a dessert that’s fun to make and to eat, for both the kids and adults!

Cooking Your Pizza

Preheat your oven to 350F and cook for 15-20 minutes, or until the crust turns golden brown.
