NIKU Farms is known for our local Ontario meat and fish products – but did you know that some of our partner farms also offer delicious pantry items?
Howick Community Farms, Marita Fields, Trick’s Creek and Woolleys’ Lamb all provide the option to add fresh pantry items such as bone broth, maple syrup and various types of grain mixes when you’re adding products to your NIKU Farms subscriptions.
Check out our farms’ pantry picks below – freshness you can’t buy from the grocery store!
Bone Broth
Whether it’s lamb bone broth from Woolleys’ Lamb, duck or chicken bone broth from Marita Fields, or beef bone broth from Trick’s Creek – you know you’ll be getting broth that is super fresh and flavourful.
Use the bone broth as a base for any hearty stew or soup in your slow cooker this season for a warming meal that packs a punch! Simmer for a few hours with some of your favourite NIKU proteins and any veggies to get extremely tender meat!
Pro tip: drinking bone broth actually has a lot of health benefits! Check out our blog for more bone broth recipes.
Grains and Mixes
If you’re looking for local baking mixes, look no further than Howick Community Farms! With ancient grain pancake mix, oatmeal cookie mix, ancient grain muffin mix, and rustic cookie mix all available to add to your NIKU Farms box, the possibilities are endless – and delicious!
Try whipping up some pancakes with their mix and then adding some of their pure maple syrup on top!
Maple Syrup + Honey
Grab a bottle of pure maple syrup from Marita Fields or Howick Community Farms, and we promise you won’t want to go back to store-bought.
Of course you could drizzle some of the syrup over waffles or pancakes, but you could also try spreading a little bit over top of some rainbow trout and adding some salt or hot sauce before baking it in the oven for 15-20 minutes for a nice maple glaze that isn’t too sweet.
Howick Community also offers jars of sweet, natural honey straight from the farm! Add it to your BBQ sauce or even just a cup of tea, and you’ll be able to taste the difference.
Next time you’re customising your NIKU Farms box, try adding a couple pantry items along with your proteins to add some local flavour to your cupboards!
